Mesotherapy Before & After Pictures
Mesotherapy stimulates the mesoderm (mid-dermis), or middle layer of skin, with microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medication and/or vitamins to deliver treatment to a specific area of the body. Created by Dr M Pistor in France in 1952, mesotherapy is now practiced in many countries around the world in a variety of cosmetic applications including cellulite and fat reduction and skin rejuvenation. In this country, only medical practitioners may use mesotherapy.
Mesotherapy uses different injection techniques according to the patient's concerns, delivering the ingredients to different depths but typically quite shallow: 4-6mm. Many of these are not even felt as the skin is pinched prior to and during the injections. Since the injections are very superficial, they disperse very slowly and travel down to deeper tissues.
Treatments are usually a course of ten for fat and cellulite reduction and six for skin rejuvenation, given once a week. The patient is then assessed to determine an on-going programme of maintenance. In some cases, a further full course of treatment may be recommended.
Mesotherapy for cellulite and fat reduction
An allergy test is required before beginning treatment
It is believed that 90% of post-pubescent women complain about cellulite. Weight loss programmes do not always reduce cellulite and hard-to-shift areas, such as "love handles", saddle bags and jowls may remain. Furthermore, those with normal weight or even underweight may still have cellulite. Mesotherapy is delivered directly into the areas of concern. It can help to breakdown fat as well as improving micro-circulation in the area and the lymphatic drainage. It may also improve skin texture.
For some cases, mechanical or manual lymphatic massage or ultrasound may be recommended and combined with mesotherapy. Mechanical massage is given with Endermologie, the only FDA approved, non-invasive treatment for cellulite.
A detailed consultation is given to assess the individual's requirements with age, fat percentage and skin texture being considered. Diet and lifestyle are also important factors. The number of treatments of mesotherapy and/or massage will then be recommended. The typical programme begins with a course of ten followed by maintenance sessions. In some cases, an initial course of twenty may be indicated.
Mesotherapy for skin rejuvenation
Using a mix of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, mesotherapy can rejuvenate, rehydrate and tighten the skin. After consultation and assessment, a course of treatments is normally recommended followed by maintenance sessions. Other treatments such as microdermabrasion or photorejuvenation may also be combined in a programme with mesotherapy for greater results.
What areas can be treated with Mesotherapy?
Face, chin, arms, legs, buttocks, back and abdomen.
How does Mesotherapy work?
Small quantities of medications are injected directly into the targeted area. Once injected the area is stimulated to allow a quicker healing time. The medications break down fatty deposits and firm the skin.
How many Mesotherapy treatments will I need?
Normally a course of treatments are needed to achieve optimal results.
Will the treatment hurt?
When injecting the patient may sometimes experience a heating sensation at the target which can last for around 15 to 20 minutes. Slight redness, swelling and sometimes slight skin discolouration may occur around the treated area. This is not permanent and will disappear in a few days.
How long will the Mesotherapy effect last for?
The effect of a course of Mesotherapy is long lasting. Once you have completed a course of treatment patients can come back every 4 to 6 weeks for top ups to maintain the results.
How much will Mesotherapy cost?
At your consultation the nurse will discuss your treatment plan and your course of treatments. Patients can pay for single treatments or purchase a course of 10.
How long do Mesotherapy treatments take?
A Mesotherapy treatment takes around 15 to 30 min.
